The box framing is needed to allow me to install a "drop" ceiling right up against the joists.
This area was the hardest and most time-consuming to frame. But I needed to do it to close the gap
between the concrete wall and the ceiling joists. Now the drop ceiling can go right up against the joists.
I didn't need to box the front wall, since the joists run perpendicular. Instead I doubled-up cripple studs,
saddled them in every other joist bay, and screwed a 1x10 pine board to the bottom cripple stud.
The box framing on the other side of the room boxes in the gas and water pipes.
Looking towards the other end of the room, the box runs right to the pine board. Note the wires hanging
below the bottom level of the joists. That will soon be changing.
With the room framed, thoughts turn to electrical work and drywall.
