July 15, 2006 - Work Day 17

Instead of running the stones right up to the lower walkway, I decided on a mulch buffer.
Large blocks, edging and a large piece of slate were recycled into this area.

The mulch bed will wrap around to the right. Hostas from the back garden are transplanted here.

Around 30 plants were planted during the day, and nearly everything is planted. The lower garden features
purple sandcherry , juniper groundcover, mugho pine, andromeda, and several grasses.

A small mugho pine neighbors the pool deck stairs. The sod has already been mowed,
and almost completely blends with the rest of the yard.

Miscanthus grasses are planted along the upper walkway.

I even planted a couple of dwarf Japanese grasses behind the patio.

Another view of the pool deck garden, with the grasses and the addition of a mugho pine.

From the pool deck.

The lower garden needs only lighting and mulch. The white glass-top table that once sat here
is out in the yard, refinished and painted to match a new set of chairs on the main deck.

The upper walkway also featueres a couple of mughos, and stepping stones for a shortcut to the yard.

The former deck furniture, with its new cushions, waits in the yard to enjoy its new home on the patio.

Another shot from the main deck.

From the yard.

Next up...the upper garden. The peonies look great, but the rest needs work.
