June 4, 2006 - Work Day 5

Five trips to Home Depot and Lowe's gets you 100 bags of patio base. That 5,000 pounds of patio base.

Ever wonder what 5,000 pounds of patio base looks like? I can tell you, because I lifted it five times.
I built the retaining wall and staked out the location of the patio. If you follow the lines of the wall,
you'll see the slight pitch of the patio to allow for drainage away from the house.

1. Store to cart. 2. Cart to car. 3. Car to tractor. 4. Tractor to pile. 5. Pile to patio. That 25,000 pounds.
I don't even know where I got the tarp, but I've had it for years now, and man is it handy.

Of course, the obligatory shot of my workhorse. This ain't no Home Depot model, either. It's the real deal.
2005 John Deere LT160 (16 HP) with a John Deere 13 Utilty Cart. It made short work of moving the
bags of patio base. It hauled 500 pounds loads without even flinching. It's my second-favorite toy. :)

A shot of the trailer. If you're in the market for a Deere, head over to Lomac's. They were really helpful.
(And yes, it's true, you do get a hat.)

I thought it would be nice to get a picture of the entire work crew.
(Yes, I am wearing safety glasses. Safety first...EH&S as a way of life.)
