I spent most the day finishing up the cut-in of two colors. I wanted the nursery to have some fun
design to it, yet remain somewhat classy. So I drew my design cues from the crib bedding.

The room will have a chair rail detail separating the upper and lower colors. The upper cut-in is complete.

It happened to be one of the best days of the year, so I set up shop outside to paint the chair rail.

The chair rail is actually drip cap moulding. But it had the perfect angular profile for an
understated chair
rail.
The moulding came primed (right), and I painted it with two coats of flat enamel in a color slightly
darker than the other wall colors.

Back inside, the cut-in paint is drying. I used to roll the wall color right after cut-in, but I learned on my
last project that letting the cut-in dry completely eliminates the possibility of what I call "droop" -- runs
that can occur when wet paint is rolled on top of still-wet brush work.

The cut-in is a different color -- a brownish -- below the chair rail reference line.
The two colors are drying, getting ready for the roller.
