Work turns to staining the oak bookcase. I went with "red chestnut" for the color. It's a medium
brown with some red tones in it. It's pretty close to the color of the existing window frame.

Most of the day was spent staining the bookcase.

The stain highlighted the profile of the woodwork.

It also did a good job disguising the shelf peg holes.

With the stain done, it was time to cut the shelves from 1"x"12" solid red oak boards.

Creating the shelves actually took some time. I routed a 1/8" roundover to the front edges of each shelf
to soften the look. I went with solid, one-piece oak shelves for strength and durability.

Twenty-four shelves later.
Work now turns to staining the new shelves; then to applying polyurethane.
