My order of 1x12 boards came in, just in time for me to start cutting them into 28 1/2" lengths for
the bookcase's shelves. Solid red oak like this is expensive, but it will hold the heaviest of books
without sagging. Plus, it looks fantastic.

I had enough stock to cut 28 shelves -- seven for each bookcase.

After cutting them, I installed an 1/8" roundover bit in the router table to smooth over the edges.

And after a day of cutting and routing, the shelves are ready for final sanding.
